Is it safe to consume animal liver during the first trimester of pregnancy? I am currently 8 weeks pregnant and want to know if it is okay for me to include liver in my diet.
Artificial Intelligence Health Assistant's Answer

It is generally recommended to avoid consuming animal liver during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester. This is because liver contains high levels of vitamin A, which can be harmful to the developing fetus in excessive amounts. While vitamin A is essential for fetal development, too much of it can lead to birth defects. It is best to consult with your healthcare provider or a registered dietitian for personalized advice on your specific dietary needs during pregnancy. They can provide guidance on alternative sources of nutrients that are safe and beneficial for you and your baby.

In the UK we are advised to eat no liver or any animal offal as the high vitamin A can cause issues for baby.
