asked Sep 16, 2021 in Pregnancy Period General by anonymous
Hi, I recently had an ultrasound at 16 weeks of pregnancy and the radiologist told me that I'm having a boy. However, when I consulted my gynecologist, they said it's a girl. Now I'm confused and don't know what to believe. Can someone please guide me and help me understand the discrepancy between the two opinions?

It can be confusing when different medical professionals provide conflicting information about your baby's gender during an ultrasound. In such cases, it is important to remember that ultrasounds are not always 100% accurate in determining the gender of the baby. The accuracy depends on various factors such as fetal positioning, experience of the sonographer, and gestational age.

If you're unsure about the gender determination, you have a few options:

  • Seek a third opinion: Consider consulting another experienced sonographer or specialist who can provide their expert opinion based on additional scans or tests.

  • Wait for further confirmation: As your pregnancy progresses, subsequent ultrasounds may provide more clarity regarding your baby's gender.

  • Discuss with your healthcare provider: Talk to both your radiologist and gynecologist about the discrepancy in their opinions. They may be able to explain their reasoning or suggest further steps for clarification.

Remember that regardless of whether you're having a boy or girl, what matters most is that your baby is healthy and developing well.

Ok, I would make sure you have another ultrasound scheduled, and ask your doctor to verify as those are not the results radiology gave you. Did you have a blood test done to confirm?

Do another scan at 22 weeks or 23 weeks
