asked Jul 19, 2021 in Pregnancy Period General by Linda
I'm using an app that says I am 6 weeks pregnant, but my last period was only from July 2nd to July 6th. How can this app accurately determine my pregnancy weeks based on such a short period?
Artificial Intelligence Health Assistant's Answer

It is common for pregnancy apps to estimate the gestational age based on the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). However, this method assumes a regular 28-day cycle with ovulation occurring on day

  • If your cycle is shorter or longer than average, or if you ovulated earlier or later than expected, the estimated weeks may not align with your actual conception date. Additionally, some women experience light bleeding during early pregnancy, which they may mistake for a period. To get a more accurate estimate of your pregnancy weeks, consult with a healthcare professional who can perform an ultrasound and assess other factors such as hormone levels and fetal development.
