asked Feb 16, 2021 in Tests at Pregnancy by anonymous
Hello friends, my last menstrual period was on 12/1/2021. I took a home pregnancy test on 13/2/2021 and it came out positive. However, when I went to the doctor on 16/2/2021, she couldn't see the gestational sac yet. She recommended a serum beta HCG blood test, and I'm waiting for the results. I've had three miscarriages in the past and have a 4-year-old daughter. Given my history, should I be concerned if the sac is not visible yet? Can you please provide some guidance?
Artificial Intelligence Health Assistant's Answer

It can be concerning if the gestational sac is not visible during early pregnancy, especially considering your previous miscarriages. However, it's important to remember that every pregnancy is different and there can be various reasons why the sac may not be visible at this stage. It could simply be too early in your pregnancy for it to be detected by ultrasound. Other factors such as irregular ovulation or an ectopic pregnancy could also contribute to this situation.

The serum beta HCG blood test that your doctor recommended will help determine your levels of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), which is a hormone produced during pregnancy. This test can provide valuable information about the progress of your pregnancy and whether it's developing normally.

While waiting for your results, try to stay positive and avoid unnecessary stress as much as possible. Remember that worrying excessively won't change the outcome but may affect your overall well-being.

If the blood test reveals low or slow-rising HCG levels or any other concerning factors, your doctor will likely recommend further tests or monitoring to assess the viability of your pregnancy.

It's essential to keep open communication with your healthcare provider throughout this process so they can provide you with appropriate guidance and support. They will be able to assess your individual situation, taking into account your medical history and any specific concerns you may have.

Remember, every pregnancy is unique, and it's important to stay hopeful while following the advice of your healthcare provider.

Very normal the sac isn't visible yet. You're just under 3 weeks according to your dates. Hang in there hon! Try to relax, eat some good food and get your rest.
