asked Apr 20, 2024 in Pregnancy Period General by anonymous
I got diagnosed with bipolar type 2 a couple years ago. I had my tubes tied and just found out I'm pregnant 10 years after I got them tied. I have never had to talk to another Dr about my bipolar I want to keep going on with some kind of medicine to help manage it. I just never heard anything about it and I just don't know what to expect

A close friend of mine has bipolar II and went through pregnancy after years of thinking she couldn't conceive. She was terrified at first, but with a good care team she did really well. Her psych and OB worked together to adjust her meds to something safer while still keeping her stable. She made sure to get lots of rest, ate regularly and leaned on her partner and family when her moods dipped. She also lined up a therapist for postpartum because the hormone shifts can be tricky. Don't be afraid to talk openly with your doctors about your diagnosis and meds – you're not alone, and plenty of mums with bipolar go on to have healthy pregnancies and babies.
