asked Dec 30, 2022 in Pregnancy Period General by Nimitha
My egg has been fertilized, and my doctor advised me to check for periods on the 2nd day. If I don't get my period, when should I check for pregnancy?

After fertilization, it takes about 6-12 days for the fertilized egg to implant in the uterus. If you don't get your period on the 2nd day as expected, you can take a pregnancy test on the 8th day to determine if you are pregnant. This timeframe allows enough time for the hormone levels to rise and be detected by a home pregnancy test. However, keep in mind that it is always best to consult with your doctor for personalized advice based on your specific situation.

I used to drive myself crazy testing too soon. Most home tests won't pick up the pregnancy hormone until about 10–14 days after ovulation/fertilisation. With my last baby I waited until the day my period was due and still got a very faint line; by a couple of days after my missed period it was much clearer. If your doctor suggested watching for your period, I'd give it at least a few days after the day you expect it before testing, otherwise you might just end up with a negative that later turns positive. And try to use your first morning pee when you do test, since it's more concentrated.
