From about 30 weeks on my belly turned into a little gym, so when my son suddenly had a quiet day I panicked too. At this point babies are getting bigger and can run out of room, so the wild flips and karate kicks turn into more rolling and stretching sensations. It’s also easy to miss subtle movements if you’re busy or upright.
Something that helped calm my nerves was doing a kick count after dinner when I was lying on my left side. I would drink something cold and focus on baby for an hour or two. As long as I felt around 10 movements in that time my midwife was happy. If I ever noticed a drastic change or couldn’t get him to wiggle with juice and a lie‑down, she wanted me to call and get checked.
Every pregnancy is different, but trust your instincts. A slight slowdown in rhythm at 31 weeks can be normal, but if you feel like the pattern is off or movements are very faint, it’s always worth ringing your provider for reassurance. They can do a quick NST or scan and it will give you peace of mind.
