What are the different types of movements that a 12-week-old baby can make? Can you provide examples and explain their significance for their development?
Artificial Intelligence Health Assistant's Answer

At 12 weeks old, babies start to show more controlled movements and increased muscle strength. They can lift their head briefly when lying on their stomachs and may even attempt to roll over. They also begin to bring their hands together and may reach for objects within their line of sight. These movements are important for their physical development as they help strengthen muscles, improve coordination, and enhance motor skills. It is crucial to provide a safe environment for them to explore these new abilities under supervision.

By three months or so my little one went from being a floppy newborn to a pretty busy wiggle worm. You’ll start to see them kick and pump their legs when they’re excited, wave their arms around and slowly start bringing their hands together or to their mouth. Tummy time got a lot more fun because she could lift her head and chest for longer stretches and even did a mini push‑up to look around.

Around this age some babies will roll from tummy to back by accident when they get tired of holding their head up, and you might notice them twisting their body and arching when they’re trying to reach for a toy. My son also loved batting at hanging toys on his play gym and would stare at his hands in fascination as he learned to open and close them. All of these little movements help build core strength, hand‑eye coordination and body awareness. Don’t worry if your 12‑week‑old isn’t doing all of them yet – they develop at their own pace. Lots of floor time and gentle encouragement give them plenty of chances to practice.
