I am currently 12 weeks pregnant, and my husband has been taking international anabolic steroids since 2020. I'm concerned about the safety of our baby. Can you provide any information on this topic?

It is important to prioritize the health and well-being of both you and your baby during pregnancy. Anabolic steroids are synthetic substances that mimic testosterone and can have serious side effects when used improperly or without medical supervision. While there is limited research specifically on the effects of international anabolic steroids on fetal development, it is generally advised to avoid using these substances during pregnancy.

Exposure to anabolic steroids during pregnancy can potentially harm the developing fetus. These substances may interfere with normal hormone production in both you and your baby, leading to various complications. Some potential risks include premature birth, low birth weight, developmental delays, and abnormalities in the reproductive system.

It is crucial for your husband to consult with a healthcare professional about his steroid use and its potential impact on your pregnancy. They can provide guidance based on his specific situation and help him make informed decisions regarding his health choices.

Additionally, it's important for you as the expectant mother to maintain open communication with your healthcare provider throughout your pregnancy. They can monitor the progress of your baby's growth and development through regular check-ups and ultrasounds.

Remember that every pregnancy is unique, so it's essential to seek personalized advice from qualified medical professionals who are familiar with your specific circumstances. By working together as a team, you can ensure the best possible outcome for both you and your baby.

oh hun this is a tricky situation. i totally get ur concern! when my cousin was preggo her hubby was into bodybuilding stuff too and she had similar worries.

from what i know (not a dr obv just a mom who's been there), the main thing is if ur exposed directly to the steroids. like if he's taking pills or injections, its mostly affecting HIS body not urs directly. but there can be some concerns with physical contact or if theres any chance of cross-contamination you kno?

my friend talked to her dr bout this and they said the biggest risk is more about mood changes and behavior stuff that can effect the pregnancy environment rather than the actual steroids transfering to baby. but everyone's situation is diff.

i'd say definitly bring it up with ur ob at next appt. dont be embarassed - they've heard it all trust me! they can give u proper advice based on what specifically hes taking and how.

meanwhile maybe ur husband could talk to his dr too? sometimes hearing it from a medical prof helps guys understand the bigger picture esp when theres a baby coming :)
