When is the ideal time to take a home pregnancy test? With irregular cycles due to conditions like PCOS, it can be difficult to determine. Can you provide guidance on the optimal week for taking a pregnancy test at home?
Artificial Intelligence Health Assistant's Answer

It is recommended to wait at least one week after your missed period before taking a home pregnancy test. However, if you have irregular cycles due to conditions like PCOS, it can be challenging to pinpoint the exact timing. In such cases, it's best to consult with your healthcare provider for personalized advice. They may recommend waiting until two weeks after your missed period or suggest alternative methods of confirming pregnancy, such as blood tests or ultrasound scans. Remember that every woman's body is unique, so it's important to seek professional guidance for accurate results and appropriate next steps.

With my cycles I always got the most reliable results if I waited until at least the day my period was due, or even a few days after. Most home tests are designed to pick up hCG around 12–14 days after ovulation. If your cycles are irregular because of PCOS, it can be hard to know exactly when you ovulated, so you might need to give it a little longer. I used to count about two weeks from when I thought I ovulated or roughly four weeks from the start of my last bleed and test then. If it's negative but your period still doesn’t show, wait a few days and test again. Early response tests claim to work up to 5–6 days before your missed period, but waiting a bit longer can save you the rollercoaster of faint lines :)
