I'm currently 8 weeks and 2 days pregnant, and I've noticed that my poop has turned green and I'm also experiencing diarrhea. Is this normal during pregnancy? What could be causing it? Please help me understand what's going on.

Experiencing changes in bowel movements, such as green poop and diarrhea, can be common during pregnancy. There are several factors that could contribute to these symptoms. Firstly, hormonal changes can affect digestion and lead to looser stools. Additionally, an increase in the hormone progesterone can slow down the movement of food through the digestive system, resulting in diarrhea. Another possible cause is dietary changes or sensitivities. Pregnancy hormones can make you more sensitive to certain foods or beverages, which may trigger digestive issues. It's important to stay hydrated and maintain a healthy diet rich in fiber to regulate your bowel movements. If your symptoms persist or worsen, it's advisable to consult with your healthcare provider for further evaluation and guidance specific to your situation.

Hey mama, I had green poop too around 8 weeks with my first and it freaked me out at the time! Usually it’s from the iron in prenatal vitamins or eating lots of leafy greens or foods with food colouring. Diarrhea can just be your body reacting to pregnancy hormones or something you ate.

Try to sip plenty of water and eat bland foods like bananas, rice or toast for a day or two. Avoid greasy or spicy things until things settle. It should calm down on its own. If you notice pain, blood or it lasts more than a couple of days, give your midwife or doctor a call just to be safe. Otherwise it’s just another weird pregnancy symptom we all laugh about later. :)
