I'm currently 11 weeks pregnant and experiencing a significant amount of watery discharge, almost like my water broke. Should I be worried about this or is it normal during pregnancy?

Experiencing an increase in vaginal discharge during pregnancy is common, but if you're concerned about the amount or consistency of the discharge, it's always best to consult with your healthcare provider. While watery discharge can be normal, especially as your body undergoes hormonal changes, it's important to rule out any potential complications. Your healthcare provider will be able to assess your symptoms and provide appropriate guidance. They may perform tests to check for any signs of infection or ruptured membranes (if your water has indeed broken). Remember that every pregnancy is unique, so trust your instincts and seek medical advice when needed.

Hi there, I know that feeling! Around 11–12 weeks I felt like I constantly had a little gush of fluid and it scared me, but my midwife assured me it’s usually just increased cervical mucus. Hormones and extra blood flow make your body produce more clear, watery discharge in pregnancy. It can feel like your water broke even though it hasn’t.

If it’s clear or milky and doesn’t have a strong odor or any itching/burning, it’s generally normal. I wore panty liners and changed my underwear more often so I felt more comfortable. Keep an eye on it though – if the fluid is yellow/green, bloody, has a foul smell, or you have cramping or pain, it’s worth checking in with your doctor to rule out infection or anything serious. Otherwise, welcome to another strange pregnancy symptom we don’t get warned about!
