What could be the reason behind the pain in my right rib after consuming rice? Is there a specific condition or underlying cause that leads to this discomfort?

There can be several reasons for experiencing pain in the right rib after consuming rice. One possibility is gallbladder issues, such as gallstones or inflammation, which can cause discomfort and radiate to the right side of the body. Another potential cause could be gastrointestinal problems like acid reflux or gastritis, where the stomach lining becomes inflamed. Additionally, food intolerances or allergies may trigger an inflammatory response in the digestive system, leading to pain in the right rib area. It is advisable to consult with a healthcare professional for proper diagnosis and treatment options based on your specific symptoms and medical history. They may recommend further tests, such as an ultrasound or endoscopy, to identify any underlying conditions causing your discomfort. In the meantime, keeping a food diary and avoiding foods that seem to worsen your symptoms can help provide temporary relief.

I remember getting all sorts of strange aches under my ribs when I was pregnant, especially after eating. Rice and other heavy carbs would sometimes leave me feeling really full and gassy, and that pressure made my ribs ache on one side. As baby grows, your organs get squished and your diaphragm sits higher, so even a normal meal can feel like it’s pushing up under your ribs.

What helped me was eating smaller portions, chewing slowly and taking a little walk after meals to help things settle. I also tried to avoid sitting slouched right after eating because it made the discomfort worse. If you notice it happens with rice because of the portion size or if it’s fried or oily, try switching to lighter grains or cooking it differently.

If the pain is sharp or comes with nausea or vomiting, definitely mention it at your next appointment just to rule out gallbladder issues or anything else. But often it’s just the joys of pregnancy digestion and everything moving around in there. Hang in there, it usually improves once baby drops a bit.
