asked Apr 22, 2019 in Baby Health During Pregnancy by anonymous
Yesterday, my doctor recommended a scan and we discovered that my baby's heartbeat has not started yet. When can I expect the heartbeat to begin?
Artificial Intelligence Health Assistant's Answer

It is generally normal for the baby's heartbeat to not be detected at 5 weeks of pregnancy. The development of the fetal heart starts around 5-6 weeks, and it may take a few more days or even up to 8 weeks for the heartbeat to become audible on an ultrasound. It is important to remember that every pregnancy is different, and there can be variations in when the heartbeat becomes detectable. Your doctor will monitor your progress through regular check-ups and ultrasounds to ensure everything is progressing as expected. If you have any concerns or if there are other symptoms present, it is always best to consult with your healthcare provider for further evaluation and guidance.

I had a scan a week ago when a lot of my symptoms decreased suddenly over night. Only because I've had numerous miscarrages in the past (6th pregnancy, 1 healthy 6yo dd) my LMP similar to yours 9th March. I would have been about 5 weeks at that point but they couldn't see a single thing on the scan, only a thickened uterine lining (which is a good sign) so had to have blood tests to monitor hCH patterns. Sometimes the baby is just too small to even see the sac at this stage let alone the heartbeat. So it doesn't mean something is wrong. Ask your Dr for some blood tests, as long at your hCG levels are going up by at least 60% every 48 hours, it signals everything is normal. That's what I did and I've got another scan in 2 weeks, so will be 8 weeks by then and definitely be able to see it. Hope this helps ease your mind a little bit.

Please check in 8 weeks. I have heard that the heart beat starts for babies around 6-7weeks.

5 weeks is way too early to expect a heart beat. You most likely won't see anything on ultrasound either, it's just too early. Check your quants twice, if everything looks good on blood work then get an ultrasound at 7 weeks of pregnancy.
