I am currently 13 weeks pregnant and have recently experienced a sudden, intense pressure in my lower back. It was an extremely uncomfortable sensation that lasted for approximately two minutes before subsiding. What could be causing this? Is it something to be concerned about?

Experiencing intense pressure in the lower back during pregnancy is not uncommon, especially as your body goes through various changes. There are several possible causes for this discomfort. One possibility is round ligament pain, which occurs as the ligaments supporting the uterus stretch and expand to accommodate your growing baby. Another potential cause is sciatica, which happens when the sciatic nerve becomes compressed or irritated, resulting in pain or pressure radiating from the lower back down to the legs. Hormonal changes can also contribute to increased joint laxity and muscle tension, leading to discomfort in the lower back area. To alleviate these symptoms, try practicing good posture, engaging in regular exercise approved by your healthcare provider, using heat or cold packs on the affected area, and wearing supportive shoes with proper arch support. If the pain persists or worsens over time or if you experience any other concerning symptoms such as bleeding or fever, it's important to consult with your healthcare provider for further evaluation and guidance.

When I was around 13 weeks, my lower back felt kinda sore and heavy at times. Friends joked it was our bodies getting used to carrying extra weight already! Stretching and a little walk around the house usually made me feel way better.
