asked Jul 4, 2023 in Baby Health During Pregnancy by Spandana
I'm currently 18 weeks pregnant and I've noticed that I'm having more frequent bowel movements than usual. Is this normal during pregnancy or should I be concerned? Can you provide any advice or suggestions to help alleviate this issue?

It is not uncommon for pregnant women to experience changes in their bowel movements, including increased frequency. This can be attributed to hormonal changes, increased pressure on the intestines, and dietary factors. While it is generally considered normal, if you are experiencing severe diarrhea or other concerning symptoms such as abdominal pain or dehydration, it is important to consult with your healthcare provider. To help alleviate this issue, you can try incorporating more fiber-rich foods into your diet, staying hydrated, and engaging in regular physical activity. Additionally, avoiding trigger foods that may exacerbate the problem can also be beneficial. If these measures do not provide relief or if you have any concerns, it is best to seek medical advice from your healthcare provider.

honestly at 18 weeks everything in ur body is like “hey let’s do our own thing”  hormones and the little one pressing on ur insides can make u go more often. i remember running to the bathroom all the time lol. as long as u’re not dehydrated or having pain/blood it’s usually just your digestion speeding up. try small meals, stay hydrated and maybe some gentle fiber. if something feels really off though, always check in w/ ur doc just to be safe!
